Summary: Harvard Law will honor a lawyer who lied about an anti-cop video she helped produce using taxpayer money.
To honor “International Women’s Day” Harvard Law School is honoring 50 female lawyers and policy makers whom the students find “inspirational,” including the recently reprimanded lawyer Robin Steinberg, executive director of the Bronx Defenders. The women so chosen will have their pictures hung in honor in Harvard Law’s Wasserstein Hall for two weeks, and this “Based on compelling narratives,” about how she and the others “strive for impact and excellence in the legal field,” serving as an “inspiration to students, faculty, and staff.” What does her impact amount to? It includes making a cop killer video and then lying about it.
Two of her subordinates were forced to resign, and two fellow lawyers involved in the video quit, regarding the fiasco of the “Hands Up” video, in which a uniformed cop has guns pointed at his head, set to the lyrical skills of rappers “Uncle Murda,” and “Maino,” hoisting their pieces at the NYPD cop, while the lyrics say, “For Mike Brown and Sean Bell, a cop got to get killed.”
Whether or not it is ethical to encourage cops gotting to get killed is one thing, but NYPD union leaders such as Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch call this “embarrassing,” explaining that “in that she lied to city investigators regarding her role in the disgusting ‘Hands Up’ cop-killer video, it is obvious that she is not being honored for her ethics, integrity or for her management skills.”
Perhaps it is the “compelling narrative”?
Anyway, Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins further complained that, “Harvard is a highly respected academic institution that has world-renowned alumni. For whatever reason, it has its moments where there is purely a lack of common sense.”
For her lying, Robin Steinberg has been suspended for 60 days, followed by 6 months of increased scrutiny. Her deceit regarded trying to cover up how her taxpayer-funded group produced the violent video. And this as a representative of justice.
She will further be recognized in a March 10 keynote address put on by the Harvard Women’s Law Association and the Harvard Law and International Development Society. It seems coming up with some sort of answer to the issues of the moment counts as “compelling narrative” even if it is extorting that we shoot cops in the head to express our frustration.
