Judge Tim Wright

Williamson county judge, Tim Wright, was released on a $25,000 bond after an indictment on several weapons charges. He has until the end of the day to surrender his concealed handgun license and passport. Wright has been charged with nine federal charges. The charges are knowingly selling firearms to prohibited persons, making false statements during the purchase of a firearm, and facilitating the smuggling of firearms out of the country.

A raid by the Bureau of Tobacco, Alcohol and Firearms over a week ago produced 51 firearms and a pickup truck from his home. The prosecution claims that Wright made false statements to investigators about the timeframe of when he sold firearms and created false documents for the sales. Prosecutors state that Wright knew or had reason to believe that he was selling firearms to convicted felons.

Federal Judge Mark Lane called the charges very serious. The combination of all charges results in a 70-year sentence, so with Wright’s current age of 70, he would be spending the rest of his life in prison if found guilty. Wright’s attorney, Jeff Senter, adamantly proclaims that his client is innocent and is eager to prove his innocence. Senter also asserts that Wright will remain on the bench as a judge unless the state commission of judicial conduct decides differently.
