Summary: Here are 6 tips that I put together to help you stay healthy when you’re having fun over the weekend with friends and family.
Weekends can be SO HARD when it comes to sticking to a healthier lifestyle. Not only do you have so many temptations around you, but the lack of schedule can really throw you out of whack if you aren’t paying attention to your body’s cues. Here are 6 tips that I put together to help you stay on track when you’re having fun:
- Fit in a longer workout, or do something fun with your friends or family like taking a long bike ride, going hiking, or even rollerblading. Anything to get you moving!
- Don’t go in for the pitcher… Buying your own drink rather than sharing a pitcher during happy hour will keep you more aware of how much you’re drinking, especially if it’s something sugary like margaritas or sangria!
- Put food on plates. I am so guilty of just snacking right out of the container when I’m at home. By pulling out a plate or bowl and serving myself one portion of a snack, I am much more aware of what I’m eating and less likely to over-eat before I realize it!
- Binge-watching your favorite Netflix show? Do a workout move every 10-15 minutes (or commercial breaks for TV or sports events) like squats, crunches, leg abductions or push-ups!
- SLEEP! A lack of sleep can make you crave more food and more sugar to keep your energy up during the day. The weekend is a great opportunity to get in extra sleep so take advantage!
- Going to a cocktail party or dinner party where you know the food won’t be anything near “clean?” Have a snack beforehand, like a banana with a little peanut butter or an apple and a small handful of nuts, and you won’t be ravenous upon arrival! This will allow you to use your brain, and not your stomach, when choosing what to eat and what isn’t worth it.
