Summary: A Texas Popeyes restaurant was robbed earlier this month, taking $400 from the registers. The shift manager was fired for allowing that much money to be in the registers.
A pregnant Popeyes shift manger in Channelview, Texas was fired after an armed perpetrator stole the money she had left in the cash registers. The day had been unusually busy so there was more money than normal in the registers.
The employee, Marissa Holcomb, was held at gunpoint while five months pregnant. The robber demanded her to open the safe but she explained that she could only open the registers. The robber then took the $400 in the registers and got away.
Holcomb claims that her manager gave her the option of paying the $400 back or be fired. Holcomb was unable to pay that much money and unwilling to so she was fired.
The Popeyes spokesperson says that it is against company policy to have that much money remain in the registers, resulting in her termination. The rep also claims that they were unaware that Holcomb was asked to pay back the stolen amount.
Holcomb is pregnant with her fourth child and has been unable to find work to replace her lost job. Attempts to raise money for her and her family through GoFundMe.com were removed by the website.
Since the story went viral, Popeyes has offered Holcomb her job back with $2,000 in backpay.
