Summary: Manny Pacquiao is being sued for failing to disclose his shoulder injury prior to May 2nd’s fight.
Manny Pacquiao is one of a handful of defendants named on a $5 million class action suit filed this Tuesday that allege the boxer failed to disclose his shoulder injury to the Nevada Athletic Commission prior to his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2, despite being required to by law. As for the disclosure form, it was checked “no” when asking if he had any injury. His adviser Michael Koncz said, “I checked it. It was just an inadvertent mistake.”
That inadvertent mistake seems to have steamed Stephane Vanel and Kami Rahbaran, who have filed the suit “on behalf of all persons who purchased tickets; purchased the pay per view event or who wagered money on the event,” and who therefore “were victimized by Defendants’ failure to disclose and to cover up the injuries of Defendant Pacquiao.”
So they want to give Pacquiao another beating.
Pacquiao is to undergo surgery for a torn rotator cuff, and will take a nine month reprieve from boxing.
This Tuesday Pacquiao and Top Rank released a statement about the shoulder injury saying “A few hours before he was expected to step in the ring, when Manny’s doctors began the process, the Nevada Commission stopped the treatment because it said it was unaware of Manny’s shoulder injury.”
A rather banal tell nothing sort of disclosure.
Listed on defense are Pacquaio, naturally, as well as the promotion company Top Rank Inc. and president Todd DuBoef, adviser Michael Koncz and promoter Bob Arum.
