Summary: Today I want to share my five favorite romantic movies. They might be a little traditional or obvious, but they are what I like.

  1. Sixteen Candles

Sixteen-Candles

You know you love it, don’t even try to deny it. I was the awkward girl who guys never even turned an eye at in high school, so this movie was basically my dream back then. Now I wish they’d developed Jake’s character a little more. WHY was he so intrigued by her? But whatever – who cares??

  1. Drive Me Crazy

Drive-Me-Crazy

I have no idea why I love this movie so much, but I do! It’s definitely not one of the better knowns, but it probably came right at that crucial age where I started having crushes on boys, and the thought of these two neighbors/ex-friends falling in love while in pursuit of who they “thought” they wanted was exactly what I would have loved.

  1. Ever After

Ever-After

I wasn’t sure if this should be #3 or #2 so really let’s just say they’re tied. Also a lesser known movie, it’s a retelling of Cinderella, with a dose of reality but an equally perfect ending. I also love historical fiction, so the setting was perfection, as was the writing. I’m pretty sure I could quote this entire movie…

  1. 10 Things I Hate About You

10-Things-I-Hate-About-You

LOVE IT! This is a romantic comedy with several different love stories going – two in particular. It’s much more updated than the others that I’ve reviewed but still very early 2000’s, which brings me back to High School again. The characters are complex but at the same time the writing is funny. It’s realistic but completely unrealistic at the same time – as in all of these characters would exist, but would this turn of events really happen? Maybe we just all wish they would.

  1. Pride and Prejudice

Pride-and-Prejudice

Ah. Pride and Prejudice. I loved this book and when the Keira Knightly film came out I became obsessed. I’ve watched it a million times, including the version with the director’s commentary throughout the film. I actually hate watching it with anyone else because they just don’t “get it” like I do. I’m clearly a romantic at heart … I also love the older BBC version. I think I choose based on my mood. It’s just such a beautifully written story with so many small nuances that show their connection and romance, unlike a modern day romantic story.
