Summary: Johnny Depp faces some heat for smuggling his pups into Australia.
It seems Johnny Depp and his smuggled terriers have been ratted out by an eager Australian groomer who posted on Facebook about having tending the movie star’s dogs. That’s when the trouble commenced. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star who is in Australia to film the fifth of the series is facing up to a decade in prison and over $250,000 in fines for smuggling his Yorkshire Terriers, Pistol and Boo, into the country.
He faced such barriers two weeks ago as well, when Australia’s Minister of Agriculture Barnaby Joyce accused him of flying the dogs into Queensland on his private jet.
“If we start letting movie stars, even if they’ve been ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ twice, to come into our nation then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody,” Joyce said. “It’s time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States. After that I don’t expect to be invited to the opening of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean.'”
After threatened they would euthanize the dogs if they weren’t deported within 72 hours, Depp did just that.
The dog dispute is so heated because, apparently, they can spread disease, and need to be quarantined for 10 days upon entering a new country.
In this case, Depp and his wife Amber Heard did not declare the animals on their customs form or give documentation.
