Summary: Hiscock & Barclay is merging with Damon Morey.
As two firms eager for growth, expanding offices, and blossoming in terms of hire, the merger of Hiscock & Barclay with Damon Morey will bring them more of the same in terms of ambition and market dominance. The new firm will be 275 strong, with offices across the Northwest, and will be called Barclay Damon.
Managing partner John Langan explained they began courtship in January. “Within three weeks, we were focused more on how to get the most out of it and make it successful rather than whether to do the deal.”
Peter Marlette, who served as managing partner for Damon Morey, will helm the new firm as managing director in their Buffalo office (that, and their Syracuse office will both front as a sort of dual headquarters). He said, “There’s so many more opportunities for a 275-lawyer firm. It just made a lot of sense for us.”
The new firm will focus on health care practice, as Langan explained. They will also be the largest in Upstate New York, as per the National Law Journals 2014 Ranking.
Hiscock had already been growing from 50 attorneys in 1995 to 210, so this merger keeps them on that trajectory.
