Summary: While other California residents are asked to reduce their water usage by at least 25 percent, Tom Selleck is stealing water from a public hydrant for his ranch.
California Governor Jerry Brown placed water restrictions of the state to help combat the extreme drought the state has been facing for the last four years. With this action came the term “drought shaming†in reference to those that care more about their green lawns than breaking the restriction.
One such person is Tom Selleck, actor in the police drama Blue Bloods. Selleck also had a role on Friends, Three Men and a Baby, and won an Emmy and Golden Globe for his portrayal of a Hawaiian detective in Magnum PI. Selleck owns a 60-acre avocado ranch in Thousand Oaks, California.
Selleck is being accused by the Calleguas Municipal Water District of stealing water for his ranch from a public hydrant at a construction site in another water district. Investigators have determined that a commercial tanker truck has filled up with water over 12 times from the hydrant before delivering the water to his ranch.
The lawsuit claims that the truck filled up seven times throughout September, October, and December of 2013 and then again four consecutive times in March of this year. He had been sent a cease and desist letter in November of 2013 but it was clearly ignored.

The Calleguas Municipal Water District is seeking $22,000 for legal fees and the cost of hiring PIs to investigate the crime.
