Summary: A recent California Supreme Court decision means that a case may proceed against Bill Cosby.
According to The Recorder, a civil suit that involves sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby may proceed. The California Supreme Court declined a request to intervene in the case. According to CNN, the plaintiff’s attorney called the move a “huge, huge victory.”
Now, Cosby, 78, may be deposed by Gloria Allred, a renowned feminist attorney.
Cosby’s attorney has also moved to prevent the unsealing of court records.
Allred’s client is Judy Huth, who has alleged that Cosby forced her to perform a sex act on him while they were at the Playboy Mansion in 1974. Huth was just 15 years old at the time. According to the Los Angeles Times, Huth said that she and a friend met Cosby at a San Marino park, and the assault occurred later, when Cosby allegedly gave Huth alcohol and led her to the Mansion. When Huth filed a lawsuit in December, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said it would not pursue criminal charges because the statute of limitations had expired.
Right now, many think the future for Cosby looks bleak.
Allred wants to depose Cosby within 30 days. She said, “We believe we have a right to take his deposition in this civil lawsuit. We are going to tomorrow provide him with dates in August when we are available to do that. We are willing to even go to Massachusetts where allegedly he resides and take it.”
Cosby’s attorneys argued that Huth has not met the requirements for filing a sexual abuse claim outside the statute of limitations, and tried to have the case dismissed. The defense lost at the trial and the appellate level, and asked the California Supreme Court to review the case. In addition, Cosby sued Huth for extortion, arguing that she tried to sell her story to a tabloid ten years ago.
Janice Dickinson has brought assault allegations against Cosby as well.

Huth’s case is just one of several pending against Cosby. In recent news, a deposition from 2005 was revealed that included statements from Cosby where he admitted using prescription sedatives on women he wanted to sleep with.
