Summary: Diversity in law firms is behind the times but law firms have been putting on emphasis on themselves to hire qualified attorneys of diverse.
The push for greater diversity in law firms has been growing. Vault used a formula of their own to determine the “Best 25 Law Firms for Diversity” by looking at minorities, LGBT individuals, military veterans, individuals with disabilities, and women. Here are the top 10.
- Carlton Fields Jorden Burt in Tampa, FL – rose two spots from last year’s ranking.
- Paul Hastings LLP in New York, NY – rose two spots from last year’s ranking.
- Ropes & Gray LLP in Boston, MA – dropped two spots from last year’s ranking.
- Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York, NY – rose two spots from last year’s ranking.
- Littler Mendelson P.C . in San Francisco, CA – dropped three spots from last year’s ranking.
- Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP in Washington, DC – rose two spots from last year’s ranking.
- Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P. in Kansas City, MO – stayed in the same position
- Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC in Memphis, TN – rose two spots from last year’s ranking.
- Schiff Hardin LLP in Chicago, IL – dropped four spots from last year’s ranking.
- O’Melveny & Myers LLP in Los Angeles, CA – was not ranked last year.
There weren’t many changes in the rankings except from O’Melveny & Myers. To go from not ranked last year to being in the top 10 shows that they are committed to being a diverse law firm.
