Arturo Banegas Masia will be joining Akerman LLP as a partner in the New York office. He will strengthen their cross-border transactions practice across the United States and Latin America. He has experience in heavily regulated financial services and the telecommunications sectors.
Co-Chairman of the Latin American & the Caribbean Practice, Carlos Mendez-Penate stated “As a bilingual, dual-licensed layer, Arturo will help our clients effectively achieve their cross-border business objectives. His extensive knowledge of structuring transactions will help to protect our clients’ investments throughout Latin America.”
Before joining Akerman, Banegas Masia worked as senior counsel to a leading wireless technology company. His responsibilities there included mobile payments, mobile commerce initiatives, and carrier billing. He has also practiced in Venezuela, representing domestic and foreign financial institutions in banking, finance, and corporate matters. Banegas Masia also taught law at the Universidad Monteavila in Caracas, Venezuela.
He has been acknowledged for his expertise in corporate mergers and acquisitions, finance and banking matters by Chambers Global, Latin Lawyer, and Chambers Latin America. He received his LL.M. from Duke University School of Law and his LL.B. from the Universidad Catolica Andres Bello in Caracas, Venezuela. He is licensed to practice law in New York and Venezuela.
