Once a star in the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, Attorney General Kathleen Kane has destroyed her reputation as a trustworthy attorney. She was charged with conspiracy, obstructing justice, perjury, false swearing, and official oppression. Patrick Reese, her driver, was also charged with aiding the cover-up into an investigation over a year ago.
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman stated, “Kane orchestrated the leak…to the media through a political operative for the purpose of retaliating against former state prosecutors whom she believed had embarrassed her in the press. She undertook these actions seeking vengeance and retribution against other law enforcement professionals.”
Kane will face a court appearance shortly. Gov. Tom Wolf called for her resignation, stating that she will be unable to properly do her job but she vows not to resign and denies all charges against her.
The Philadelphia Daily News released an article about a former NAACP official misusing funds, causing an investigation to begin because the article included details from a 2009 grand jury probe into the official that was never charged.
Kane admits to releasing the information but does not believe she broke any laws. She plans to run for re-election next year.
