Elon Law

Summary: The attempt to attract more applicants by Elon Law through changing their program length so that students will graduate faster and spend less on tuition seems to be working.

Several law schools have implemented new policies or programs to entice students to attend their schools. Elon University School of Law changed the standard three year program to two-and-a-half years. This new program length seems to be fulfilling its purpose with the school reporting higher enrollment that last year.

Elon Law is reporting an increase of 18 percent for their 2015 entering class. Dean Like Bierman believes the number of 132 students makes them “not too big or too small. We can still provide personal attention and help students achieve their goals.”

The plan to change their program length was announced last October. They reduced their semesters to seven trimesters from the standard six semesters. Students would be graduating in December instead of May and will save them $14,000 in tuition plus living expenses. Students will be able to take the February bar exam and get an edge on the legal job market over their peers at other schools.

The school had 681 applicants this year, a increase in 14 percent from last year. The applicants represented 85 different undergraduate schools, which is more than any other year. The number of students they selected ties for the largest the school has ever had.
