The information on this chart was originally compiled by the American Bar Association and gives the state, this year’s population of lawyers, last year’s number, and the percent that the numbers changed from 2014 to 2015.
Florida had a growth of 8.5 percent, possibly due to the rumors of changing their bar exam rules. Puerto Rico grew by 7.9 percent and Utah by 7.3 percent. Nebraska had a growth of 6.6 percent.
States that saw no growth include American Samoa, Arkansas, Connecticut, Guam, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, North Mariana Islands, Oklahoma, Virgin Islands, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
States that saw negative growth were West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Nevada, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Hawaii, and Alaska.
The data is not completely accurate as Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, and the District of Columbia did not provide their most current numbers by the submission deadline. Arkansas, Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming provided fall results instead of their December results.
