Mayer Brown Welcomes New Partner in Washington D.C.

Summary: The Intellectual Property practice at Mayer Brown has added Brian J. Winterfeldt as well as a team of lawyers from Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.

Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP has lost several members of the firm to Mayer Brown. Intellectual property attorney Brian J. Winterfeldt is leading the way by joining Mayer Brown as a partner in their Intellectual Property practice in Washington D.C. With him come one counsel and two associates to the New York and Washington D.C offices.

Winterfeldt will serve as co-leader of Mayer Brown’s Global Brand Management and Internet practice. He had the same position at Katten. He will help clients with global trademark and branding strategies. He work will focus on developing programs that enforce clients’ IP rights and protect against infringement of their trademarks, trade dress, and copyrights both in the U.S. and across the world. He works with leaders in retail and apparel, financial services, media, food and beverage, consumer products, Internet, hospitality, and technology sectors.

Winterfeldt earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, an M.A. from Tulane University, and a B.A. from Emory University.

Counsel Sherry Jetter and associate Philip Karnofsky will be joining the New York office. Associate Phillip Marano will be joining the Washington D.C. office.

Mayer Brown has made over 40 lateral hires in the past two years to grow their practices into being top-notch quality. The IP practice in Washington D.C. has almost doubled in size in the past 18 months.
