Summary: The dean at Colorado Law will be stepping down next summer after serving in the position for five years and transforming the school into a top ranked program.
After five years serving as the law school dean at the University of Colorado Boulder, Philip Weiser will be stepping down to resume teaching. He will also continue his position at the executive director of the Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship.
Dean Weiser has helped transform the law school into a nationally recognized innovator and regional leader for the changing legal scene. CU Provost Russell Moore praises Weiser for being “a visionary leader of the school during a time of great change in legal education and has worked tirelessly to focus on student success and building community.”
Some of the community engaging and student skill building programs that Weiser started include the Tech Lawyer Accelerator, the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative, and the Corporate Counsel Intensive Institute.
Some of the work Weiser has done off campus include organizing the Gathering of the Bench and Bar Conference, helping the White Center begin the Stevens Lecture resulting in four Supreme Court Justices to visit Colorado Law, and worked with the natural resources faculty to improve the Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy and the Environment.
Weiser has focused on keeping the cost of law school down by developing The Colorado Law Action Plan as well as holding tuition at a constant for four years, doubling scholarship support, and establishing a $6.5 million Loan Repayment Fund for graduates working in public service and underserved communities of Colorado.
Colorado Law is ranked in the top 25 law school for their employment rates by Moody’s, ranked in the top 10 by Business Insider for their networking and employment rates, and ranked in the top 5 by Business Insider for financial aid.
Colorado Law is preparing to see their largest class ever this coming fall from an applicant group that was up 10 percent from last year compared to law school applications nationwide being down for the fifth year.
