Summary: The young man that was taken down by four Americans before he could shoot-up a Paris-bound train is claiming he was just going to rob people.
The terrorism suspect that was taken down aboard a French train has tried to claim that he was just a robber. The French authorities are not stupid and were able to see right through his claims to open a formal investigation into the attack that left one man shot.
Suspect Ayoub El-Khazzani was born in Morocco and had recently returned from Turkey and possibly Syria. He had watched a jihadi video just moments before the attack on his cellphone. The video from YouTube was of an Islamist urging followers of the prophet to fight and take up arms.
Khazzani had emerged from the Paris-bound train restroom with an automatic rifle, over 270 rounds of ammunition for the assault rifle, a pistol, and a knife. Four American passengers overtook Khazzani. They were two off-duty military members, their friend, and a professor. The professor was shot during the altercation and still remains in the hospital.
His claim that he only intended to rob passengers on the train is easy to dismiss. His father seems to be oblivious of the lifestyle that his son has swayed towards, saying “My son is not a terrorist. He’s a poor boy, he loves to play soccer, go fishing, but he is not a terrorist.”
French authorities have searched two homes that they believe are connected to the suspect and his attack. One is said to be the home of his sister.
