Summary: While no competitors could take Bolt down during the 100 and 200 meter races at the World Championships, a cameraman on a Segway had no problems.
The World Track and Field Championships in Beijing showed the world that Usain Bolt still has what it takes. He beat American sprinter Justin Gatlin in the 100 meters and then again in the 200 meters to win another gold medal.
The drama began when Bolt was taking his victory lap after winning the 200m. A cameraman riding a Segway hit a bolt on the ground with the left tire. This caused the Segway to sharply veer and strike Bolt from behind.
Bolt was startled and concerned about what had just happened, thinking he may have been taken out by a crazy fan. When he realized that he was fine and that the cameraman had run into him, he jumped up to make sure he was okay too.
This commotion allowed a crazy fan to then jump the barriers and try to take a selfie with Bolt. Security guards defended Bolt and tackled the fan to the ground. Bolt then insisted upon finishing his victory lap with the Jamaican flag around his neck.
Gatlin entered the race with the fastest times but Bolt beat him, posting the fastest times in the events for this year. Bolt has missed most of the past couple seasons due to back problems and other injuries so it is a good thing the cameraman didn’t hurt him.
Bolt has now won a total of 10 world championship gold medals.
