Summary: Methamphetamine respects no boundaries and can affect anyone, even the mayor of a small town in Oregon can get caught with it.
Oregon is pretty relaxed about their drug rules but even the mayor of a small town had to know he would get caught for methamphetamine. Now Idanha, a town of 140 people east of Salem, Oregon, will be looking for a new mayor.
The 68-year-old mayor Cletus Moore and a passenger were stopped by police in the nearby town of Jefferson. The methamphetamine was found shortly after the traffic stop. Both men admitted that they had come to the town to buy the drugs.
Moore will also be cited for driving without insurance. The full list of charges has not yet been released. They will appear before the Marion County Circuit Court at the end of the month.
Surpisingly, Moore was convicted in 2009 by Marion County for meth possession. The passenger, 39-year-old Christopher Kosack was convicted in 2013 and 2014 for meth possession in nearby Linn County. Kosack was also convicted in March for meth possession and second-degree theft by Marion County.
While it is unclear how long Moore has been mayor but if he was elected with a drug conviction, Idanha must be without many options for mayor.
