Summary: Texas is completing an overhaul of their laws today with nearly 700 new laws being passed, one of the most highly anticipated being the ability for some to get medical marijuana.
Texas is passing around 700 new laws today, including the law that will allow some epilepsy patients to gain access to low-THC cannabis oil. Texas is also passing laws to make synthetic marijuana even more restricted.
Other laws the state is passing today include penalties for skipping school, elimination of “pick-a-pal” grand jury system, making “revenge porn” a crime, trying elected officials accused of ethics crimes in their home counties, requiring peace officers to obtain search warrants before performing body cavity searches during a traffic stop, prohibiting drones flying on Capitol grounds, and erasing student loans for Mental health professionals that work with prisoners.
The Lone Star State still seems like a whole other country, where concealed-carry gun licenses pass as valid IDs. They deal with daily problems with the Mexican border, even creating a special team to manage the prosecution of these crimes. Texas has also created a law that prohibits anyone from helping anyone cross the border into Texas.
Following the immigration issue that the state has, state agencies will be allowed to verify a candidate’s citizenship before hiring them but every employer should be allowed to verify citizenship if they wish before hiring employees. Critics of this law don’t understand why state agencies are held higher than others.
