BakerHostetler announced an addition to their Privacy and Data Protection team. Paulette M. Thomas has joined the Chambers-ranked team in Cincinnati as counsel. The team is experiencing strategic growth because of their award-winning reputation that effectively manages data security incidents, providing risk assessments and compliance counseling, responding to regulatory investigations, and defending class actions.
The Privacy and Data Protection team is also known for helping organizations respond to 1,000 privacy incidents and have led the way responding to around seven of the largest healthcare industry breaches.
Thomas is an authority in the healthcare industry. She has over 25 years of healthcare law experience on top of 14 years as a registered nurse. Her most recent employment was as corporate counsel for Catholic Health Initiatives. Her role was to provide counsel to over 100 hospitals, including 30 critical-access facilities, four academic health centers, and other inpatient and outpatient facilities in 19 states.
Her work has included collaborating with healthcare systems, hospitals, nursing homes, physician practices, and home care providers on their operations and management issues. She is well versed with Medicare conditions, medical staff matters, contract review and negotiations, 340B drug-pricing programs, HRSA audits, and more.
The team is made up of 40 attorneys and led by Ted Kobus. The team has experienced several new laterals in the past two years in their Seattle, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Houston, and New York offices. The Healthcare Industry team has also undergone substantial growth and now has over 80 attorneys. Atlanta received 1 27-member healthcare team in Atlanta.
Thomas received her J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law and her Master of Laws Healthcare Law from Loyola University College of Law. Her nursing diploma is from The Washington Hospital School of Nursing and her B.A. in business is from the College of Mount Saint Joseph.
