CTV News reports that BlackBerry is on track to purchase Good Technology, its former rival, for $425 million in cash.

In February, BlackBerry sued Typo for infringement.

BlackBerry Ltd., a Canadian company, said that Good Technology, which is based in Sunnyvale, California, will supply complementary technology that will work on a variety of operating systems, including iOS, which is used on Apple devices.

Roughly two-thirds of Good Technology’s product activations are on Apple devices, with the remaining one-third on Windows and Android devices.

Last year, BlackBerry sued its former executive vice president of development.

BlackBerry does have its own operating system. However, it has been working to expand its product reach. For example, it has strived to integrate more closely with Samsung’s Android devices. According to The Verge, many predict that BlackBerry will actually begin releasing Android devices in the near future.

BlackBerry has lost market share and revenue to the Apple iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

In 2013, BlackBerry decided to go private.

The deal is subject to certain conditions. However, BlackBerry has stated it should receive roughly $160 million in additional revenue in the first year. USA Today adds that BlackBerry shares were up 2.5% in pre-market trading after the deal was announced.
