Minnesota’s Department of Health is looking into a salmonella outbreak that they believe is linked to Chipotle restaurants across the state. There have been 45 confirmed cases of salmonella since September 2.
The Health Department has interviewed 34 of the cases, 32 of which reported that they had eaten at a Chipotle restaurant in the state. The majority of the locations reported to have been eaten at were in the Twin Cities area. The dates that the concerned people ate out at a restaurant range from August 16 to 26 and were reported ill between August 20 and 29. The ages of the persons range from 15 to 67 with only five having to be hospitalized.
The investigation between the Health Department and Minnesota Department of Agriculture is still trying to determine the source of the outbreak. Until it is officially determined, Chipotle has gone ahead and switched their produce where the suspected outbreak came from.
Someone affected by salmonella will experience diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. The symptoms usually appear between 12 and 72 hours but can sometimes take a week to begin.
