Richard Wershe Jr. or his given name by media, White Boy Rick was sentenced to life in prison without parole at the age of 17 in 1988. Wershe was sentenced during a highly corrupt phase for Detroit.
At the age of 14, Wershe was made into a police informant, taking him out of school so that he could make drug deals for the police. After years of exposure to the drug world, Wershe ended up making his own deals and getting targeted by the police. He was stopped at the age of 17 where police found 17 pounds of cocaine in his car.
Wershe’s trial was full on inconsistencies and problems that have since been discovered. Police officers have admitted that they were paid to testify in his case when they had no knowledge to the case. Witnesses were paid off by the police as well. Detroit was more concerned with eliminating the drug problem than playing by the rules.
Wershe had sought a resentencing on his case for next week but it has been pushed back. Wayne County Circuit Judge Dana Hathaway allowed for Wershe to be resentenced since he was sentenced as a juvenile and the penalties for drug crimes has changed dramatically since he was originally sentenced.
While in prison, Wershe has been extremely cooperative with the authorities.
