Bill Cosby Seeks a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Summary: With the possibility of criminal investigations being reopened, Cosby is in the market for a lawyer.

When a complaint was filed against Bill Cosby in 2005, most thought there wouldn’t be enough evidence to charge him. Former Temple University employee Andrea Constand was the first to step forward, alleging the star sexually assaulted her. Since then many women have claimed the actor raped them.

Rumors are flying that the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office is reinvestigating the complaint. However the DA’s office will not confirm. They are only saying that it is a prosecutor’s job to “review past conclusions…when current information might lead to a different decision.”

With the possibility of a criminal investigation looming, Cosby is in the market for a criminal defense lawyer in Philadelphia. Cosby’s New Jersey lawyer, Edwin Jacobs, admits to putting Cosby in contact with a high-profile lawyer in the Philly area.

Cosby has also faced civil charges. Constand filed a civil suit that was settled before even making it to trial. In the suit, she alleged she met Cosby through her job with Temple University’s women’s basketball program. She visited him at his home where he gave her pills for stress. When she woke up later, her clothes were messed up.

Cosby has since admitted in a sworn deposition to having sexual relations with her and several other women but claims it was consensual. Pennsylvania prosecutors have 12 years to file a felony sexual assault case in court, meaning the January deadline is quickly approaching.
