Summary: A lawyer from Georgia is the latest parent to leave her children unattended in a car while she ran inside to represent a client in court.
Incidences of adults leaving children in cars have hit the media in the last few years. Unfortunately, several of those children died from the mistake, but luckily many were saved before something serious happened.
Georgia lawyer and former judge Kimberly Bandoh left her two boys in her car while she went inside the courthouse to handle a case last Thursday. Residents walking outside the courthouse noticed the two and three-year-old boys alone inside a car and alerted the police.
The children were taken inside the courthouse after sitting in the car for about 30 minutes. An announcement was made to locate the parent of the children. Bandoh stated she thought she was just going to run in and out and wouldn’t be long; the weather was not hot that day so the children probably would have been fine.
The authorities were not impressed with her actions, and arrested the former judge on the misdemeanor charge of leaving her children unattended in a vehicle. The children’s grandmother ultimately picked them up from the courthouse. Bandoh bonded out within an hour of her arrest and returned to court to work. She is a former magistrate judge for Clayton County. She had planned to run for chief magistrate court and was recently elected president of the Clayton County Bar Association.
