Summary: A woman says her attorney demanded sex for legal services.
A 25-year-old woman arrested on intoxication manslaughter charges is now claiming her attorney forced her to have sex with him before he would take her case. Sabrina Sanchez says she had sex with her attorney Mark Benavides in a jury room next to the courtroom.
During her testimony, she stated, “He had me go back in the jury room and we had sex, and then afterward we washed up in the bathroom of the jury room.”
Sanchez was sentenced to 15 years for killing someone while intoxicated. She claims Benavides advised her to take the plea deal of 15 years in prison. She has filed a motion to overturn the conviction and do a trial instead.
Sanchez paid Benavides $40,000 for her bond and legal fees, and states that he wanted sex in addition to the money.
Benavides has denied everything in a sworn affidavit. He’s stated, “She is just very upset that she wound up having to do 15 years for killing somebody’s father and husband and is making up a bunch of lies about me.”
Judge Sid Harle will review the written recommendations and the affidavit before submitting his decision to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
