Summary: Three real estate attorneys from Morrison & Foerster will begin to work out of an unofficial office in Boston.
Morrison & Foerster LLP is testing out the waters in Boston by opening a small office for three of their real estate attorneys. Their focus will be on real estate finance, led by partner Thomas McGovern.
Morrison & Foerster is one of the largest firms in the U.S. in revenue. The firm’s gross revenue last year was almost $1 billion. They have over 1,000 attorneys that work from their 17 worldwide offices. At this time, they are not counting the Boston office as an official location.
The main purpose for the new location is to better serve clients that do business in Boston. McGovern states, “A number of our existing clients do a substantial amount of real estate transactions in the Boston area. We generally thought we could service them better by actually having boots on the ground up here. Also, just with the concentration of real estate and private equity companies, it made sense, from a new business perspective, to set up shop here.â€
Boston has seen several Am Law 100 firms join their city over the past ten years. Jones Day and Latham & Watkins LLP are just some of the firms that have opened up shop in Boston.
The three person team will continue to use the real estate attorneys in the New York and Los Angeles offices until the day comes that the Boston office expands and adds more real estate lawyers to this new location.
