Summary: It’s time to celebrate lawyers and the great things they do on National Love Your Lawyer Day by removing negative jokes towards lawyers from conversation.
The American Lawyers Public Image Association (ALPIA) established November 6 as the day for lawyer appreciation. Executive Director Nader Anise claims, “Lawyers are always painted as the bad guy, even if they pull off some crazy Houdini-esque maneuvers to help their clients.” The aim of this special day is to commend lawyers for all the good they do.
The ALPIA wants everyone to throw out the bad lawyer jokes and send a gift, flowers, card, or just say thank you to their attorney. They want anyone that makes a lawyer bashing comment to donate $20 per comment to a charity of their choice; that could be expensive for late-night talk show hosts.
Every attorney in the U.S. has been asked to give one hour of pro bono work or donate the equivalent of a billable hour to Make-A-Wish Foundation or Childreach International. International attorneys will be included in the festivities for the first time this year.
Mark your calendars for the future, National Love Your Lawyer Day will be held every first Friday of November. All lawyers, judges, bar associations, legal organizations, and the public are invited to participate.
The ALPIA is the only legal organization in the world that solely aims to promote a positive image of lawyers to the public. They were founded 15 years ago.
