Summary: A group of Volkswagen owners in Australia have filed a lawsuit against the automaker seeking costs of the cars and additional damages.
The lawsuits against Volkswagen keep piling up. An Australian lawsuit was recently filed by law firm Maurice Blackburn
The Australian class action includes 10,000 owners already. They suit is targeting the German parent companies as well as local subsidiaries. The litigation will seek to cover the costs of the cars plus damages for deceptive and misleading behavior.
One of the lead applicants for the suit, Audi owner Robyn Richardson, stated, “I am extremely disappointed that, because of the company’s deceitful conduct, I’ve now got a car that is emitting dirty diesel. I am here to bring them to account for what they’ve done. I’m here to deter other companies from behaving similarly.”
Volkswagen remains firm in declaring that the vehicles are technically safe “and the necessary measures will be undertaken at no cost to them. We will do everything we can to fix this problem and regain the trust of our customers.”
The other lawsuits that Volkswagen faces include a securities-fraud class action, shareholder lawsuits, and a planned claim by VEB, a Dutch investor association, for investors that bought VW stock through a Dutch bank or broker.
It is expected that more lawsuits will continue to be filed against the company throughout the world.
