Summary: With the divorce finalized just days before his sentencing, Jared Fogle and Katie McLaughlin will now enter into a custody battle.
Days before former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle was sentenced to over 15 years in prison on child pornography charges, his divorce has been finalized. Boone County Superior Court granted Kathleen McLaughlin a divorce from Fogle three days before his sentencing.
McLaughlin had filed for divorce in August only hours after Fogle agreed to plead guilty to the count of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and distribution and receipt of child pornography.
Her attorney states that Fogle had very little participation in the family’s daily lives during their five years of marriage. They have two kids together. She has taken their two young children, 4 and 2, out of state in an attempt to avoid media attention so they can return to as normal a live as possible. McLaughlin has also already changed her name back to her maiden name.
Fogle gained his fame during college when a roommate wrote an article about his weight loss using Subway sandwiches. His home was raided in July, soon after the director of the Jared Foundation house was raided.
Fogle will serve a minimum of 13 years before becoming eligible for parole for good behavior. After being released from prison, he will be on supervised release for the rest of his life and will be a registered sex offender.
McLaughlin has requested sole custody of their children but Fogle has contested. He has not seen the children since August and is currently only allowed to see them with permission from her.
