Summary: A Boston man allegedly posed as a Harvard-trained lawyer to steal from clients.

A man rented office space in Boston’s tallest building, One International Place, and set up shop for the law office of “David Corazza.” According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, David Corazza was one of eight aliases for David Koraca, 47, who was arrested this week and charged with larceny by scheme and unauthorized practice of law.

Koraca allegedly told clients that he graduated from Harvard Law School, when in fact, he was not licensed to practice law in any state. At the time of his arrest, he had a Massachusetts Bar Associate card with his alias and a fake ID number.

Koraca’s website and LinkedIn page says he was a Harvard alum who worked in the entertainment industry at companies such as HBO and Showtime before opening his law office in 2011. His websites said he focused on corporate, entertainment and financial law.

The prosecutor released a statement saying, “The MBA has no record of a David Koraca or a David Corazza authorized to practice law, nor do they have a record of any attorney assigned the number on the card.”

Koraca used his made up position to gain trust and steal. For instance, he offered to help an acquaintance with her money problems. She told police that she gave him copies of her credit cards and other personal information. Koraca then took that information to make purchases of almost $1,000 on Amazon. When she confronted him about the charges, he said they were to cover legal expenses and that he would reimburse her. He never did.

A second client alleged that Koraca defrauded her of $21,000, charging her credit cards and bank accounts. He used the money to pay for his office’s rent.

Another client said she paid him $7,000 to represent her in a divorce. Prosecutors say after she paid she never heard from him again. She would contact him and not receive a response.

Koraca is being held on bail for $10,000, and he has been ordered to wear a GPS monitor. He will return to court on Dec. 14.

Koraca is being represented by William J. Walsh.

The ironic thing about all this is that Koraca gave hints of his con man lifestyle on his social media profiles. He referred to himself as “The real, Harvey Specter” on Twitter, and any fan of USA Network’s “Suits” would recognize the character, a genius who practices law without having a law degree. The big difference is that Harvey used his powers for good.
