Summary: Tulane University Law School will be offering an online Master’s degree specifically targeted for human resource professionals to gain a better understanding of labor and employment law.

With an increasing demand and need for knowledge of the complex regulations that govern the human resources field, Tulane University Law School is starting an online Master of Jurisprudence program in the Labor and Employment Law specialty.

The new program will start in May 2016 in order to meet the growing demand for a high-quality education in the employment law area. The program will be offered online so that students around the world have the availability to take advantage of the opportunity.

Tulane Law faculty veteran Joel Friedman will lead the program and be the leading authority in employment and labor law at the school. Friedman said of the program, “This program will equip non-lawyers with the tools to understand and act upon current and future employment law.”

The main goal of the degree is to help human resources and human capital professionals further their careers in the employment field. It is a 25-credit-hour master’s degree that can be completed in under two years online. Tuition will cost $32,000.

Students will be able to listen to recorded lectures and complete assigned readings at their own pace while interacting with live virtual online classroom discussions. Tulane faculty designed and will teach the courses, it will be delivered using the online platform Colloquy, a division of Kaplan Inc.

Tulane Law Dean David Meyer said, “Organization leaders and human resource professionals now require basic understanding in the legal architecture that frames every decision to hire, train, promote, or discipline an employee. This program will provide that understanding in a format that enables professionals at all career stages to benefit.”



The program now only needs to be approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which is expected to be done next month.
