Summary: Vinson & Elkins is the latest of a growing list of law firms making moves to the Uptown area of Dallas to enjoy the growing amenities in the area compared to downtown.
Comfortably located in downtown Dallas, prominent law firm Vinson & Elkins has decided it is time for a new location. The area north of downtown, called Uptown, has been experiencing a boom in new building projects but the addition of Vinson & Elkins will be the biggest planned project for developers.
Of the 2-tower, $200 million building, the firm will take on the role as the lead business tenant out of offices, residential, and retail spaces. Partner John Wander said, “We are extremely pleased to be moving to the top floors of The Union. The opportunity to move to a premiere new building in Uptown, with its wide-variety of restaurants and amenities, great location, and modern office space will create a highly-desirable workplace and retain and attract the talented individuals that are the foundation of the our firm’s success.â€
Vinson & Elkins was especially attracted to the mixed use of the building with retail space. Wander explained, “The mixed-use amenities provided there are the single biggest reason we are doing it. For the young people we are attracting to our firm, those things are very important.â€
One business going into the space is Tom Thumb grocer. They will take up 60,000 square-feet once the building is completed in 2017. Vinson & Elkins will take up an 80,000 square-foot space in 2018. Their current space is closer to 156,000 square-feet but the new office is more efficient.
Other firms that are making the move to Uptown include Sidley Austin, Gardere Wynne Sewell, Jones Day, Winstead, and Haynes Boone. The next expected to join the list is Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.
