Summary: Twelve new partners have been announced at Akin Gump with the London office taking the lead with three of their lawyers being promoted.
It has been around a year since Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld moved into the $50 million London office of Bingham McCutchen. Now the firm is making the largest number of partner promotions in London with three of their lawyers becoming partners.
Akin Gump is promoting 12 lawyers to partnership with the Dallas, Houston, and New York office’s adding two each and London adding three. Last year the firm added 14 lawyers to their partnership but none came from the London office.
The Bingham take-over more than doubled the size of Akin Gump’s presence in London, putting greater attention on the lawyers in that office. The cross-border transaction capabilities of the London group have been highlighted by the efforts of new partners Sophie Jermine and David Sewell. Financial regulatory lawyer Rosemarie Paul was the third one promoted to partner from the City.
Jermine gathered a lot of attention for her role in the IPO of Game Digital in 2014. She represented one of the video game chain’s largest investors and also has Oracle has a client. Sewell includes Riverstone as one of his clients as his builds his transactions practice in private equity M&A. Paul is a part of the litigation practice at Akin Gump and is a former member of the enforcement and financial crime unity at the Financial Services Authority. She now advises clients on financial regulatory matters in the UK.
The other three partners came from the Hong Kong, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. offices.
