Sandy Cohen, a fictional character on Fox’s “The O.C.” played by Peter Gallagher, was crushable because of his sensitivity and wisdom. Dean Strang of “Making a Murderer” seems to embody what Sandy embodied. In the Netflix series, Strang is poised and compassionate as he attempts to save defendant Steven Avery, and the Internet has shown its love for the unlikely Wisconsin heartthrob. Many have even likened him to Cohen and Atticus Fitch from the classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

In addition to oozing sex appeal, Strang’s 2000s style has transfixed fashionistas obsessed with normcore, a fashion that celebrates looking normal to the extreme. Think mom jeans and sneakers. Think Larry David on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

But it’s not just celebrities and fans that adore Strang, whose website says graduated from Dartmouth and the University of Virginia Law School. Media outlets have caught on to the fan’s love with Strang, and they’ve devoted space to examining the fans’ crushes as well as their own writers’ obsessions. Vogue’s Julia Felsenthal wrote an entire think piece examining her crush.
Felsenthal writes, “Could I really make a life in Wisconsin? Had I truly fallen head over heels for the most unlikely of paramours: Steven Avery’s diminutive defense attorney, Dean Strang?”
Well, Julia, if you want him, you may have to step in line.
