Summary: A Seattle lawyer ends up with Sir Mix-A-Lot’s previous cellphone number.
When Seattle lawyer Jonathan Nichols gained a new local number to help his job search during law school, he didn’t anticipate the sorts of calls he was getting.
“I used to get a lot of calls and voicemails from luxury car dealers, and they were always trying to sell me or have me test drive a Ferrari or Lamborghini,” Nichols told ABC News.
Perplexed by the strange stream of numbers, inexplicable calls and texts, he wondered what sort of number he ended up with.
The mystery was explained when a woman left a voicemail saying, “This used to be Sir Mix-A-Lot’s number. If somebody calls talking about they are Snoop Dogg, they really are.”
Sir Mix-A-Lot came to great fame in 1992 for his booty anthem, “Baby Got Back.”
“[Nichols is] probably getting insane pictures, photos and strange ‘Happy Birthday’ songs and all kinds of stuff,” Sir Mix-A-Lot told ABC News. “If he’s a lawyer, he sifts through those calls, he will find clients. Trust me. A lot of them.”
Nichols says he doesn’t have much a problem with any of this. “I don’t want to ever change this number,” he said. “It’s my fun, quirky, interesting fact for ice breakers. I can say, ‘Actually, I have Sir Mix-A-Lot’s old phone number,’ and it’s kind of like a mic drop moment.”
One wonders how seriously his clients will take him if he breaks the ice with that.
