Now Weitz & Luxenberg, a New York law firm that primarily works on personal injury claims to asbestos exposure, is working to bring a lawsuit against one or more companies involved in the contaminated water around Hoosick Falls, N.Y, News10 ABC reported.
The Environmental Protection Agency has released new safety guidelines to the residents of Hoosick Falls after tests of the water have come back worse than expected. For weeks, residents have been told to use bottled water to cook, drink and brush their teeth with, but now the EPA suggests keeping showers as short as possible.

The water is contaminated with PFOA, a chemical associated with Teflon. Some of the tests have come back showing rates 45 times higher than the recommended safe levels. Weitz & Luxenberg will investigate who is to blame for the contamination and the impact it is having on the property value and health of the residents.
Attorney Robin Greenwald at the law firm said, “There’s no question that PFOA is a dangerous chemical. Nobody questions that. And so, for all those reasons, people are quite concerned and being harmed in multiple ways.”

The town of Hoosick Falls sits just 500 yards from a manufacturing site that has seen a number of companies come in and out. Tests on the chemical have never been done before because it wasn’t a widely found chemical. But because of this contamination, the EPA will reconsider the required tests so that the health of all involved is better monitored. Until a solution is found, a water filtration system for the town is being installed.
