Summary:President Barack Obama’s executive gun order has been hit with its first lawsuit of what is expected to be many more to come.
Just two weeks since President Barack Obama issued his executive order on gun control, the order is facing a lawsuit brought by conservative advocacy group Freedom Watch, The Hill reports. The challenge accuses Obama of “inventing” new gun laws while dodging Congress.
Obama Offers Tears and Executive Orders for Gun Control
“The president states that he is doing so purely because he does not like the legislative decisions of the Congress,” Freedom Watch founder Larry Klayman wrote. “These actions are unconstitutional abuses of the president’s and executive branch’s role in our nation’s constitutional architecture and exceed the powers of the president as set forth in the U.S. Constitution.”
Klayman, who is also a National Rifle Association member, is filing the first lawsuit against the executive order in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Many believe there will be many more lawsuits filed over the gun order.
Judge Stops Obama’s Executive Actions on Immigration
The order requires those selling firearms to conduct more extensive background checks in an effort to cut gun violence. Those that oppose the order claim it only makes things harder for those already following the law to buy guns but will not affect those already breaking the law.
The order will also increase mental health treatment and reporting to the background check system and increase technology for gun safety.
