While every job carries some risks and attorneys have been known to be the target of anger from upset clients, no one expects to be lit on fire by someone they know. Unfortunately, this is what happened to 67-year-old attorney Kirby Taylor.

Taylor had been living with his 45-year-old son, Dexter, and another roommate for the past eight years. The roommate, 32-year-old Curtis Lee Holliman, became upset when Kirby and Dexter Taylor laughed at him during an argument. Holliman told the men, “You think that’s funny? I’ve got something for you.” He went upstairs at the shared residence and returned with a flammable liquid assumed to be gasoline, which he then dumped on the two men in the living room, Click2Houston.com reports.

Holliman then used a barbecue lighter to set the men on fire. Neighbors called 911 after hearing screaming coming from the house and the appearance of Kirby Taylor outside with burned pants looking for a garden hose. Kirby Taylor suffered burns on 30 percent of his body. Sadly, Dexter Kirby died from the second- and third-degree burns he sustained on his buttocks and legs.

Kirby Taylor has been a practicing attorney in Houston for more than 40 years and is now in private practice with the firm Ross and Taylor. His earlier years were spent as a prosecutor in the city municipal courts.
Holliman has been charged with murder and is being held on $50,000 bond.
