Summary: Companies are taking to providing legal services online to get more business in a struggling legal market.
Avvo, a Seattle-based company, offers online legal services such as ratings, reviews, and disciplinary records on lawyers in every state. Now users can also receive full-scale legal services through the company’s Avvo Legal Services program.
Avvo already offers their service Avvo Advisor for $39 which gives users a 15-minute consultation with a lawyer. The user just picks the topic of their legal issue and then Avvo matches them with the first available lawyer in their area through a phone call.
Online Legal Advice Popularity Increasing
The new service will provide users with advice, document review, and offline meetings. Users can choose their lawyer by looking at detailed profiles of each lawyer. The types of cases eligible for this program will start with business, immigration, and family matters. These include helping someone start a business, go through a divorce, or evaluate a citizenship application. Generally the legal service is provided within one business day.
Online Legal Forms Leave Consumers Vulnerable
Avvo CEO Mark Britton states, “When the majority of Americans forego legal representation for important, but routine legal services, we know there’s a problem. By bringing these legal services to a shopping platform that provides people a selection of attorneys in their area at a fixed price, we’re bringing unparalleled cost transparency and ease of access to an industry that intimidates many.”
Zapproved Offers New Technological Legal Services
Avvo currently works with clients in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
The company claims to have profiles of 97 percent of practicing attorneys in the United States and a Q&A forum with over 9 million questions with answers.
