A well-known UK law firm partner walked in front of a train after a fight with his wife, The Mirror reports.
Before committing suicide in December, 56-year-old Andy Duxbury left a chilling text to his wife: “I know it’s over – the last two years you have loved and hated me in equal measures. The irony of the ultimate selfish act is not lost on me.”
Duxbury was not only married, but he was the father of three children. His text seemed to demonstrate an awareness of the consequences of his action; and the IPad, two family photographs, iPhone, whiskey, digital camera, and car keys piled neatly near the train tracks demonstrated a methodical man who thought before he ended his life.
Duxbury was the chief executive at Aaron & Partners, one of the top 200 law firms in the United Kingdom. Although he was not an attorney, he was appointed partner in 2011 and became a well-known business figure in the area.

While his professional career was taking off, Duxbury’s personal life was apparently not faring in the same fashion. Last Christmas, while on vacation, he and his wife got into a fight when she discovered he was lying about something—that something: money, an affair, whatever—was not disclosed. But whatever the fight was, the next morning was “frosty,” according to a statement his wife made to the police.
While still on holiday, Duxbury’s wife believed he went sightseeing without her. Instead, he drove to Blackburn, the city where he had grown up. He parked his car near his childhood home before walking to the tracks. He texted his wife, neatly left his belongings, and then waited for the train.
Mrs. Duxbury said that she had never known her husband to have suicidal thoughts.
The loss of Duxbury has left an impact on those who had worked with him. His colleagues at Aaron & Partners said, “The partners and staff of Aaron & Partners are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of Andy Duxbury.”
