Summary: The stepfather of a Colorado woman engaged in a fight with her mother fatally shot the woman and then himself in a murder-suicide.

Montoya drove to the couple’s home in Commerce City, Colorado. When she arrived, the fight escalated with Montoya getting fatally shot by Lara, who then killed himself. Lara has a record of domestic violence with a case from 2007 and two other investigations since but no arrests. Her sisters have started a YouCaring.com profile to raise money for the triplets’ education. Their goal of $50,000 has nearly been reached. As Montoya’s sister Silvia Briscoe explained on the page, “In her personal life her kids education was always at the forefront of her planning. This donation will help finish the work she so lovingly began.”
