Summary: A gay pastor sues Whole Foods after receiving a cake that said “Love Wins F*g.”

Nobody wants hate with their dessert. But that’s what an openly gay Texas pastor allegedly got when he ordered a cake from a Whole Foods. After no attempt from Whole Foods to make the situation right, the pastor filed a lawsuit.

Fox 13 reports that Pastor Jordan Brown went to the flagship Whole Foods in Austin to buy a frosted cake. He requested that a bakery worker write “Love Wins” on a pre-frosted one, and he said when he walked out of the store, he saw “Love Wins F*g” written in blue icing. After contacting the corporate office with no response, he called the store and spoke to the manager, Geoff Nunez.

According to the lawsuit, the manager at first was apologetic to Brown and promised to make things right. However, in two hours, Nunez called Brown and said no one at Whole Foods had acted inappropriately. Pastor Brown responded, “If the bakery associated did not do this, then who wrote this on my cake?” Nunez essentially responded, “I don’t know, and we can’t help you.”

Brown took a picture of the cake, and “Love Wins” was written at the top in a medium size font and “F*g” was written below it with lots of white space surrounding the homophobic slur. It seems unlikely that the baker did not write the hateful message, considering the size and placement of the original “Love Wins.”

However, Whole Foods continues to stand by Nunez and says the bakery team member “wrote “Love Wins” at the top of the cake as requested by the guest and that’s exactly how the cake was packaged and sold at the store.” The store maintains it has a zero tolerance policy for discrimination.

Brown says he suffered emotional distress. He created a Youtube video immediately after the order, and he appears to show the cake box with its original seal in tact.
