There are so many tips and “tricks” out there when it comes to losing weight. Some can be helpful, some can leave you starving and “hangry,” and others are just plain silly. If you are serious about losing weight, improving your fitness, and creating a healthier lifestyle, here are five things you can do that will have an impact on both your mind and your body:

  1. Stop Comparing.

When it comes to health and fitness, the only person you’re competing with is yourself. You don’t know anyone else’s journey, where they are in that journey, or where they’re going. So stop looking around and start looking at yourself.

  1. Accept Change.

If you want your body to change, then you are going to have to make a change in your life. It’s as simple as that, but often that’s the most difficult part for people. Enter into this period of time knowing that you are going to have to change, and that’s okay. The world isn’t over and you will be able to change back if you so choose. Don’t let fear or a stubborn nature keep you from what you want.

  1. Take a Hard Look at Your Food.

I know, I know, you’re eating healthy… But are you really? Be honest with yourself. You may think you’ve been doing a great job forever, or you always eat pretty healthy, but I can guarantee you there are a couple bad habits or lapses in your day that you’re not acknowledging. Think back and write down every little bit of food you ate today. Even the “taste of this” or the “bit of that”. It adds up.

  1. Make a Plan.

One of my favorite sayings is “If you fail to plan then you plan to fail.” If you don’t already have a workout schedule or a meal plan set in place, then it’s much easier to succumb to temptation in the moment or to just not exercise that day. Make out a plan for several weeks, write it down, and sticking to your goals will be considerably easier.

  1. Don’t Be Influenced By Others.

You know when you’re out and you’ve decided not to drink anything, but your friends are saying, one drink won’t kill you! Stand strong. You have goals and you made a commitment to yourself, so stick to it and remember it’s just temporary.
