The incident happened on July 1, 2014 when Greer ran from the cops into an alley. He tried to toss a pistol onto a nearby roof when he fell down. It was then that the pursuing police officers shot him in his right arm, right leg and foot. He tried to get up and was shot four more times in his right arm, left arm, chest and back.

Greer claimed he had no idea why he was being chased by the police or shot after. He was suing the city for excessive force, stating that he has permanent damage that prevents him from doing everyday things like pick up his child. Greer and his attorney, Eugene Hollander, showed the surveillance footage of the attack during their press release.

Apparently Greer didn’t realize he was wanted on a warrant for the first-degree murder of a 22-year-old in May. An investigation by police led them to believe Greer committed the murder inside the apartment where the individual was shot. Hollander will not be representing Greer in the criminal case and was unaware of the charges until Greer was arrested.

The Chicago Police Department is attempting to make their department more transparent by releasing hundreds of photos and images of use-of-force incidents. This case was not part of the release of documents.
