Summary: Two writers of the song “Amazing” created for British star Matt Cradle are suing Ed Sheeran for too many similarities with his chorus from “Photograph.”
Music artist and recent Grammy winner Ed Sheeran is being sued for plagiarizing his song “Photograph” from a British singer. The $20 million lawsuit claims that his song has “striking similarities” to a 2011 song “Amazing” for Matt Cardle.

The two songwriters wrote the song for Cardel’s album “Letters” claim that the chorus of Sheeran’s 2014 hit is too similar to theirs. They state in the lawsuit that Sheeran and his writer “copied and exploited…the work of other active, professional songwriters, on a breathtaking scale, unabashedly taking credit for the work of these songwriters…”
The songwriters found 39 identical notes in the choruses of “Photograph” and “Amazing.” They also included a side-by-side analysis of the written composition of the two songs. Now they must prove that “there was some exposure of one song to another,” says entertainment lawyer Ken Abdo.

The prosecuting attorney for the case, Richard Busch, also worked for Marvin Gaye’s family. He won $5.3 million for the family in a copyright lawsuit over Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” in 2013.
Other artists have experienced a number of copyright infringement lawsuits since the Gaye case such as Justin Bieber, Led Zeppelin, and Sam Smith.
Do you think there will come a time when there will be so many songs that similarities will have to exist? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
