Summary: Malia Obama was caught smoking what appeared to be marijuana. But does anyone care?
Eighteen-year-old Malia Obama just wanted to have a good time last week at Lollapalooza. But like with most other First Kids who want to be out in public, there were people watching.
While in Chicago for the music festival, someone videotaped President Barack Obama’s daughter twerking, and another video surfaced of her smoking what Radar Online said was a marijuana cigarette. Radar Online published both videos, which erupted in controversy. Some said Malia was acting inappropriately; while others defended her, saying she was a teenager who was allowed to live her life.
Even people who dislike Obama seemed “meh” about Malia’s concert behavior.
The Miami Herald went so far as to say, “But this ‘bombshell’ is a bust, according to the court of public opinion.” Considering that recreational marijuana is becoming legalized in more and more states and popular role models such as Michael Phelps smoke or have smoked in the past, people’s taboo against the drug is waning.
Back in 2014, Jenna Bush Hager, the daughter of George W. Bush and Laura Bush, said that she was fiercely protective of Malia and Sasha Obama. Despite their different political sides, Bush-Hager sympathized with the girls, since she knew first-hand how difficult being the daughter of the President of the United States of America.
“I don’t think it’s easy … it’s not a job that they wanted …” Bush Hager had said.
When Bush Hager was a First Kid, she had been reprimanded and mocked by the public several times for underage drinking. She went on to marry Henry Hager and become a correspondent on the Today Show.
It has been announced that Malia Obama will attend Harvard University.
