Summary: It appears that the vicious divorce proceedings between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is over.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have finally settled their bitter divorce, and it only cost him $7 million. Considering that pundits had predicted he could have lost $20 million to his estranged 30-year-old wife, the 53-year-old star of Alice in Wonderland got off easy.
According to The Daily Beast, Heard has agreed to drop her domestic violence charge against Depp. Nearly three months ago, the blonde actress filed for divorce from Depp, and she arrived in court with a black eye which she claimed she obtained when Depp hit her in the face with a cell phone. She was granted a temporary restraining order.
The abuse allegation spurned an ugly battle in the court of public opinion. Some women’s groups called Heard a domestic violence victim, while other people, including Depp’s friends, daughter, and ex-life partner, came to his defense and portrayed Heard as a gold-digging liar. Last weekend, the controversy exploded when a video was published on TMZ that appeared to show Depp’s violent temper in the presence of Heard. News of Depp’s behavior got even more disturbing when TMZ posted on Tuesday that he had sliced his finger, dipped it in blue paint, and wrote menacing messages to Heard on the wall.
The pair settled out-of-court Tuesday, and they promptly released a joint statement.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love,” the statement stated. “Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity.”
On Tuesday, Heard’s attorney Samantha Spector released a statement that Heard had been vindicated in the court of public opinion. Today, she released another statement saying that she retracted that sentiment.
“My assertion that Amber Heard has been vindicated in the court of public opinion is not true. We regret the error and apologize to Johnny Depp,” Spector said.
Depp was represented by Laura Wasser.
